File version verification

A SHA-256 fingerprint changes with the slightest difference in a file — it, not the name or the date, settles whether you are holding the same version. The fingerprint of the chosen file is computed in your browser and set against a reference fingerprint from a material card in a case folder or the file list in a package. The file never leaves your device.

Version comparison · local read

Two versions side by side.

Place a file in Version A and Version B. Each receives a SHA-256 fingerprint computed in this browser, and the stamp in the middle rules at once: the same file or different files — pointing to the first character that diverges. The computation runs strictly locally — the files do not leave this device.

The check mechanism

How the verdict is reached

The whole check comes down to a single comparison — the computed fingerprint against the reference fingerprint. Below are the same three steps the module above runs.

Reference
Reference fingerprint

The point of reference is the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded for a material the moment it was uploaded — you take it from a material card in a case folder or the file list in a package. It is the single value you set your file against; without it the check has nothing to anchor to.

Computation
Computed in the browser

You pick a file; its fingerprint is computed locally, in this browser, through Web Crypto. The file is never uploaded or stored, and the result is produced on your device — the check stays on your side.

Verdict
One of three outcomes

The comparison ends in one of three states: fingerprints matching character for character mean the same version; a single differing character means a different file to clarify; no reference fingerprint means there is nothing to compare against yet. The result comes solely from comparing the characters.

File verification

Paste the reference fingerprint from a material card or package and choose a file. The fingerprint is computed locally in your browser — the file stays on your device.

Materials package

ZIP package verification

Checks whether the package carries the full set: the file list, the manifest seal, the number of materials and the fingerprint of the whole package — and whether it all holds together.

Account requiredPackage verification works inside a case folder

Once a case folder is created, the file list, their fingerprints, the manifest seal and the fingerprint of the whole package become available.

What the fingerprint confirms, and what the parties and court decide

A fingerprint confirms only the identity of the file, character for character — it does not judge the document's content, its procedural weight, or which copy is the right one. That rests with the parties and the court.

The point of reference is a fingerprint from an Akta case folder or package — it sets the value you check your file against. Two copies identical to the eye can carry different fingerprints; the saved form differs, not the look. The check works on any file — a document, a photo, a recording; what counts is the content, not the format.

Material fingerprint in an activated folder

This tool is public and runs locally. The reference fingerprint comes from an Akta case folder or package: when you upload a material — including through “Upload an export or document” — a SHA-256 signature is created the moment it is added.
